USMS SwimFest '10

USMS_SwimFest_2010

Alexandra Lopez and Ed Tsuzuki had the opportunity to attend SwimFest '10 at the University of California at San Diego on June 4-6.  SwimFest '10 brought some of the world’s top Masters swim coaches together for a weekend of clinics and instruction in a friendly, non-competitive environment.  The clinic was geared to both pool and open water swimmers of all levels, and was also structured to educate both swimmers and coaches.

A great time was had by all, as the NJ LMSC celebrated another great year of increased (and continuous) membership, active participation in USMS events by the New Jersey members, and the opportunity to work out and chat with U.S. Masters Swimming Eastern US Coach and Club Development Coordinator, Jim Halstead.

New Jersey Masters Swimmers Enjoy Annual 100 x 100s Workout!

"Congratulations and thanks to all of the NJ Masters swimmers who participated in the 2009 Annual Garden State 100 x 100's held at Rutgers University on March 1, 2009. This year's event was a true success with 51 total participants doing their best to achieve the maximum yardage possible. According to event exit reports, there were over thirty swimmers who accomplished the 10,000 yard milestone during the four hour workout. It was a strong showing in general, with lane intervals ranging from 2:00 down to a very fast 1:15 pace per 100. Your support and effort make us all proud. Thanks again, and we look forward to building on this conditioning and putting it to good use during the remainder of the 2009 USMS season."  - Chris McGiffin, NJLMSC Chair

The fall edition of the "Just Do It" semi annual adult swim meet was held on Sunday, October 19th at the Sussex County YMCA in Hardyston. Seventy seven swimmers entered the meet, up from the sixty swimmers in the inaugural meet on May 3rd. Great support from Rebecca Carlson, the Y's Aquatic Director, Debbie and George Soutter, Jill Christen and the Y's age group swim team parents organization made the meet a hit with the swimmers. Some of the features that the swimmers liked were the goody bags received at sign in (thanks to California Beach Hut for donating "goodies"), the new swimmer orientation class before the meet (thanks to Ed Tsuzuki for thinking of it and conducting it), the short duration of the meet (about 2 hours) and the event selection (50's and 100's of each event, 200 IM) and the concluding fun mixed 200 free relay. Swimmers should mark their calendar for the next "Just Do It" meet on Saturday afternoon, April 4, 2009.
