March 25, 2013 - Congratulations to Kip Gibson, 57, for setting a new NJ LMSC SCY record in the 500 yard free at the 2013 New England SCY Championships at Harvard University on March 23, 2013. Kip swam a 5:33.74, which also placed first for his age group.  Kip also won the 200 free in 2:03.14. 

March 11, 2013 - Peddie Aquatics Masters Coach Needed: Peddie Aquatics, one of the premier swim clubs in the USA, is in the process of creating a Masters program. The Masters team will look to service competing Masters swimmers, triathletes, and fitness swimmers all within one training environment. We are currently looking for a part-time Master’s Coach to help build our program. The primary role is to be a team leader who motivates, teaches and encourages our members to achieve their unique personal goals. The ideal candidate will be a creative coach that can design workouts with goals in mind for the competitive swimmer, triathlete, or fitness swimmer. The group coach must be skilled at teaching aerobic endurance/anaerobic threshold sets, offer feedback on developing proper stroke technique, and teach competitive skills. Primary Responsibilities:  Oversee a year round training program that includes 3 practices (more workouts may be offered as the program builds its membership) Develop workouts appropriate to all levels of swimming ability   Long term goals: Develop a practical and realistic annual meet schedule Establish the team as a presence within the USMS Swimming communities Organize and promote social activities for the team. March 7, 2013 - NJ LMSC swimmers are off to a fast start in 2013 with over 4,000 miles logged already in the annual USMS Go The Distance fitness event!  NJ, is currently ranked 8th in total mileage and 9th in swimmers participating (101 participants). Once again, the Colonies Zone is the highest ranking Zone with 716 swimmers and 30,345 miles logged! Don’t forget to register for 2013 and log your miles! To participate, simply register and then submit your total yardage in your on-line FLOG (under MyUSMS). For more details about this fitness event, go to GO THE DISTANCE on the USMS website.

January 18, 2013 - The January/February 2013 Fastlane is now available online!

January 9, 2013 - On January 6th, 21 members of the New Jersey Masters swimming community gathered at the Cranford Pool & Fitness Center to participate in the first  NJ LMSC sanctioned clinic of 2013.  The swimmers had the opportunity to learn from one of New Jersey's own elite level athletes.  Bobby Savulich, founder of Athlete Approved,  provided  stroke technique tips and motivational anecdotes in a very informative and entertaining style.  The focus of the clinic was to learn the various drills and techniques skills associated with both the hip-driven and the shoulder-driven styles of freestyle.  During the course of the clinic, the attendees were exposed to many new and challenging drills to help them improve their freestyle and to learn how to swim efficiently.  The swimmers were looking forward to implementing their newly learned skills that they gleamed from Bobby's unique teaching style and his insightful  breakdown of the mechanics of freestyle.

January 8, 2013 - Not Too Late to Sign Up For The 50 X 50’s There are still some spots open for the 2013 NJ Masters Swimming 2nd Annual 50 X 50’s to be held Saturday, January 19thfrom 10 am to noon at the Perth Amboy Raritan Bay YMCA. This event is FREE to any 2013 NJ LMSC USMS registered swimmer. For details, check out the entry. Kick off your 2013 training with this fun event! January 3, 2013 - NJ LMSC swimmers collectively logged 26,153 miles in 2012 – a little more than the circumference of the earth at the equator!  NJ, with the 18th highest total USMS membership (963 members), ranked 5th in GTD participation (122 participants) and posted the 7th highest total mileage of all LMSCs, a mere 400 miles behind Illinios.  NJ and New England (4th highest total) led the charge in the Colonies Zone, which was the highest ranking Zone with 816 swimmers logging 168,121 miles! Don’t forget to register for 2013 and log your miles! To participate, simply register and then submit your total yardage in your on-line FLOG (under MyUSMS).
